Britain Saved

200 thousand years ago, based on findings of sedimentologist Sanjeev Gupta, Britain was cut off from the rest of Europe by water that came flooding from an ice-dammed lake.

"This event, or series of events, that caused [the breach] changed the course of Britain's history," Dr Gupta told BBC News.

Saved indeed; the Spanish Armada would have had it easy in 1588, without the channel being there to show up their ineptitude in boats..

But just think, a couple of inches more water in that prehistoric lake, and we'd have lost Holland.
Not saying that's a good thing...... just thought it was interesting. Goldmember wouldn't have been as funny, either, had Holland been flooded.
